"Adoptive Godparent Day"

Weekend - May 3rd & 4th, 2003

Dear Holy Name/Men's Club President,

The Chicago Association of Holy Name Societies is sponsoring a new charity event, please let me explain what and why we are doing it, and ask you to support our efforts in your parish.

We often talk about ending abortion. But many times we do not pay it anything but lip service. Our event is meant to assist those mothers who choose to make the right decision and keep the baby. Many times this is more than a difficult decision due to the financial commitment involved.

As we all know May is devoted to our blessed mother, Mary. Along with Mother's day, that month is filled with reasons to celebrate motherhood. We felt this was a perfect month to help these mothers. By picking the weekend before Mother's Day our efforts can be distributed on Mother's Day to those in need.

We are proposing that all Holy Name and Men's Clubs sponsor a "Baby Shower" event in an effort to collect money and baby items to help those mothers who need our assistance. We are asking everyone in your Parish to be an Adoptive Godparent for a one weekend a year.

We will be preparing several bulletin announcements for this event, and they will be posted at our website "www.chicagoholyname.org". We are allowing each Holy Name or Men's Club to choose a local organization which supports new mothers, single mothers, adoption centers, and orphanages. We will be listing several of these organizations on our website as well.

I am asking your Holy Name or Men's Club to join our efforts and sponsor this event for the weekend of May 4th. It is a simple job: make the appropriate announcements, collect the items, bring the items to the organization which you have selected, and report to us what you have collected. We hope that we can count on your support for this event. Thank you.
